Trumpington Allotment Society

Open Day, 16th July 2005

We held an Open Day at Foster Road allotments, Trumpington, Cambridge, England. Again we saw lovely weather and hundreds of visitors from near and far (including a couple from Penzance, Cornwall!). This follows on from our successful event in 2003.

Visitors explored this vibrant allotment site which has great diversity amongst its human and wildlife populations. Visitors also enjoyed the competitions including scarecrows, vegetable treasure hunt, The Natural Lottery (guess the number of seeds in a marrow), and a high-quality tombola. Refreshments and extremely fresh allotment produce were on sale too.

We were very pleased to welcome stalls from the following organisations:

The society would like to thank the following who sponsored this year's event:

We are particularly grateful to:

  • Dr. Tim Upson of the Cambridge University Botanic Garden for judging the Best Allotment competition, a tough task given the diversity of plots on site.
  • Trumpington Womens' Institute for providing a wonderful selection of cakes

Winners of the Best Allotment Competition were:

  • Best Plot - Chris Overbeke
  • Best New Plot (less than one year's tenancy) - David Foster
